    AUTOCON LA 2014

It’s crazy to think that the last time I was at Autocon was  3 years ago. Time flies by fast, one day you’re complaining about car shows the next day you’re helping host one. It has really changed my perspective of car shows and now I fully understand the stress and headaches of running a car show. I apologize for what I’ve said back in 2011 about this show. I was young, dumb and a wreckless keyboard warrior. Even though apologies are way too late now, I hope this picture of a sad chocolate Labrador will make up for it.

The morning started like every other car show, early as fuck roll in. The process for check in was pretty quick and we got set up within 20 minutes of checking in.

    140

Hundreds of cars were pouring in through this gate. I hate commenting on about cars because all I can really say is what kind of car it is and what wheels it has. So, I’ll just comment here and there if I really have something interesting to say.. which is never.

  • AUTOCON : THE REAL COVERAGE

    AUTOCON : THE REAL COVERAGE

The couple of days before AUTOCON were super stressful. Most of us were in a frantic hurry to finish our cars for what we expected to be an awesome show. Some of us even worked on our cars the night before the show, while we were having our family Christmas party. I only had 1 hour of sleep total for the 2 days prior to AUTOCON. There were a lot of disappointments for my car even though I had put so much work into it. My wheels weren’t sealed correctly, my body kit didn’t fit, and my motor was only running on 4 cylinders. Despite all that, I still looked forward to AUTOCON because of all the hype. People mentioned how great of a show it was last year, so I expected the same this year. But before I tell you how the show was, I’ll just give you guys some insight on what Royal Origin was doing during the show.

Our roll in time for the Royal Origin x Canibeat collaboration was at 7:00 AM. Yes, that fucking early. So, we had to gather up the whole crew and meet up beforehand at 6:30AM. We had 31 cars total, including Royal Origin, goodfeeling, Sexy Squad, Lowballers, Boss Company, and Studio. Caravaning to the event was freaking awesome; it was like being in a parade of slammed cars. If that’s how my day was going to start, I knew that the rest of the day would be even better, right? Wrong. When we got there, all we saw was a parking lot that was gated, with a deep incline where most of us scraped our cars while going in. When they said El Toro Air Field I was expecting an airplane hanger or being on an air strip. Nope, it was just a parking lot that smelled like manure, like forreal. Thank the JDM Gods that it didn’t smell like that the whole day; it was either I got used to the smell or it just went away magically. Anyways, I left around 9:00 AM to go to 714 Tires to get my Equips remounted and was hoping it would hold air. Therefore, I missed the staging part of the show. From what I was told, Justin just gave us a corner and said do what ever we want. We were all pretty surprised because we thought that since we were told to come at 7:00 AM sharp, they would have a plan for us that required us to be done setting up early. If we knew that that was the case, we could have just come later and staged ourselves in 15 minutes because all we did was park the way we do at meets. Randomly. It was a waste of our time because all we did was stand/sit/sleep from 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM.

When I got back, the food trucks were starting to park and open up. The gate that the vendors and people who were showing were entering through was still open, which I thought was a convenient way for us to get to the food trucks. Unfortunately, when I tried taking that route to get to the food trucks, it was closed. Because of that, we had to go through the entrance where they were searching people, walk all the way around the gate to get to the food trucks and then come back and get searched. What a hassle. This is a little diagram of how it looked like, in the picture by JDM Life Style. The red spot is where ROYAL ORIGIN was, the pink spot is where the new entrance for spectators was, the blue spot is where the food trucks were and the yellow spot is where there was a convenient pathway, but they closed it. The light blue is where they should’ve had AUTOCON at the air base hanger…

Now, you must be thinking “Fuck Minh, you’re so fucking lazy and it’s just that you guys were placed so far, so it was inconvenient for you guys.” No ninja, we were technically the closest to the food trucks. Imagine if we were in the corner right next to the yellow spot.  I would have to cut through the entire show just to get to the food trucks.

    Autocon Collaboration 2011

This year’s Autocon 2011 in Irvine, California was a huge success with over 4,000 attendees, 450 cars, 30 vendors, 15 food trucks, and many models who came out that day. We would like to take the time to thank everyone on the Autocon staff that helped put this event together. Even though, the focal point are these cars at the event, it is mainly about the donations and donated toys that this event was able to accumulate for the less fortune for the holiday season.

    Royal Origin & CO

Here is my video coverage of the Canibeat and Royal Origin collaboration. Over 30 cars met up very early in the morning; we were even able to see the very last lunar eclipse of the year at the same time! Then drove down together as a group to roll in and organize at the show. Once again it was good meeting all our old and new friends to enjoy the day together, even if it was a very long day at that. This was an excellent way to end the year, before the show season starts up again in 2012.

    #WEPUTINWORK

The days are counting down for the big event at AUTOCON. I’m trying to get my SC together before then and want to re barrel my WORK EQUIPS that I bought from CZ WHEELS. I went to David’s house because he was already working on something on his car and he helped me take apart the wheels. Most of the nuts were super rusted and I wanted to get it replaced, went to three different shops and none of them carried it. Apparently, it’s a special nut with special threading and no one around my area carried it. Even a specialty nut and bolt ware house where all they sell is nuts and bolts! Fuck life.

  • The Impossible Will Take a While (The Story of my Lexus SC400)

The Impossible Will Take a While (The Story of my Lexus SC400)

Everyone has their dream cars, from the NSX  to the Murcielago. In all my years I was into cars, I was never really into those super cars that everyone would give an arm and a leg for. I have a slightly different liking for cars. I’m more into the cars that everyone sees everyday and then making them a beautiful form of moving  art. I know people say this is just a hobby and you’ll probably get over it in years to come, but I believe it’s something much more than that. It’s my way of showing the world that there is a creative side of me because hell I can not draw or paint if my life depended on it. I’m trying to get my SC400 ready for AUTOCON because to me that event is like an art gallery and one of the pieces that I want to be displayed is my car.

You must be thinking, “Damn, Minh you have two cars?! Must be freaking nice” and I have to tell you it is nice. The story behind me buying this car was when I had the money I could have bought UAS(Universal Air System) aka bags for my IS250.

When I talked to my financial adviser(my girlfriend) she said, “With that much money, why don’t you just buy another car?” I considered investing in something like Bitcoin UK, but instead, we decided to buy another car. She helped put in half of the money, so half of this car belongs to her and whatever I do to it, I run it by her first. Good thing we have similar taste in everything. So, here it is my 1992 Lexus SC400…

The first thing you should do to any car is drop it. After months of research, I decided to go with Powered by Max coil overs. It was the most stiffest ride you can get(insert dirt joke here) and probably gives you the best drop for the SC. They also dip it in gold for you and give you copper plated springs.

  • The Legend

    The Legend

Let me introduce to you THE LEGEND, Kyle Ranauro from goodfeeling and Studio. Kyle’s car has been getting a lot of recognition lately, sooner or later he’ll be too cool to let me take pictures of his cars. In San Diego I had the chance to snap some quick photos of his car. I really wanted to get some rolling shots to show you guys how insane this car looks when it’s in motion. I almost drifted into a wall because he broke my neck when we were cruising home from Autofashion. The weather was pretty relentless when we were in SD and the roads fucking suck, so we ended up just doing a small shoot in front of an abandoned Chinese restaurant. Be sure to make it out to AUTOCON because he will be showing with us along with the other goodfeeling guys aka “neck brace givers”.
